Hackney Wick suffered their heaviest defeat of the season as Harwich & Parkeston ran out 5–1 winners at the Simarco Stadium in the Essex Senior League.

The visitors took an early lead in the seventh minute when Ruben Carvalho was adjudged to have brought down an opponent inside the penalty area. Jake Gordon stepped up and converted the resulting spot-kick to put Harwich ahead.

The Wickers responded quickly, however, and were level seven minutes later in spectacular fashion. Mason Rees found the back of the net directly from a corner to make it 1–1.

Harwich restored their advantage in the 28th minute when Gordon grabbed his second of the evening, heading home at the back post to send the visitors into the break ahead.

Things became even more difficult for Hackney Wick in the second half when Carvalho was penalised for another challenge and shown a second yellow card, reducing the Wickers to ten men. Replays suggested the challenge may have taken place outside the penalty area, but the decision stood.

Gordon converted the resulting penalty in the 79th minute to complete his hat-trick and put the visitors firmly in control.

With Hackney pushing on despite being a man down, Harwich added two more late goals. Tiwa Odufuye made it 4–1 in the 84th minute before Louie Bloom completed the scoring deep into stoppage time.

It was a difficult evening for the Wickers, who will now look to respond quickly and put the result behind them.
