Hackney Wick suffered defeat in the East End Derby as Tower Hamlets claimed all three points in their push for the title.
With the home side knowing the title is in their own hands, it was always going to be a tough test for the young Wickers. Tower Hamlets made their pressure count early, taking the lead in the 12th minute when Kieran James headed home from a long throw.
They doubled their advantage just before the break, with James again finding the net — this time from a corner — to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Despite the scoreline, Hackney Wick showed real character in the second half. They were the stronger side for long periods and put in a performance full of energy and intent, but couldn’t find the breakthrough their play deserved.
As the Wickers pushed forward in search of a goal, Tower Hamlets sealed the result in the 88th minute, adding a third to secure all three points.
While the result goes against them, it was a performance Hackney Wick can take confidence from against one of the division’s top sides.
