It was a game of two halves where missed chances cost us the game.
We dominated the first half and had some easy chances, with both Jaylen Jones and Ruemu Abutoh the main culprits. As is often the case in football, if you don’t take your chances you risk the other team taking advantage — and that’s exactly what happened.
A mishit cross somehow beat everyone in the box and Ruemu Abutoh unfortunately smashed the ball into his own net from point-blank range. It meant we went in 1–0 down at half-time, very much against the run of play.
The second half was poor. The team didn’t come out hungry enough and after a triple substitution from Benfleet, the game turned. It wasn’t long before the hosts added four more goals to make it a miserable night in Essex for the Wickers.
