Hackney Wick FC produced a thrilling display on Wednesday night to claim a vital 4–3 victory away at Romford FC, getting back to winning ways after the late draw at Great Wakering Rovers over the weekend.
In a game full of drama, goals, and attacking intent, the Wickers looked back to their best — with Issa Sidibe back among the goals and Mohammed Sebaihi delivering a standout performance that earned him Man of the Match honours.
The perfect start came in just the third minute when John Silva’s corner caused chaos in the Romford box and was bundled into the net for an own goal to make it 1–0 Hackney.
The visitors could have extended their lead soon after, creating several good chances that went begging before Romford punished them with an equaliser — also from a corner — just before the break.
Half-time: Romford 1–1 Hackney Wick
After the interval, Hackney came out sharper and retook the lead when star striker Issa Sidibe latched onto a clever flick-on from Mohammed Sebaihi and coolly lobbed the goalkeeper — 2–1.
Sidibe doubled his tally moments later. Brilliant play by Leo Pola released Sebaihi down the left, and his pinpoint cross was met perfectly by Sidibe’s header to make it 3–1.
The Wickers weren’t done. Sebaihi, who was everywhere, picked up a crossfield pass from Silva, surged through midfield, and slotted home a composed finish to cap a superb solo goal — 4–1 and seemingly game over.
Late Nerves
Romford refused to give up and pulled two goals back late on to set up a tense finale. But Hackney showed determination and discipline to see out the remaining minutes and secure a deserved three points.
