Hackney Wick FC did everything they could on the final day, beating May & Baker 3-1 away, but heartbreakingly missed out on automatic promotion as Harlow Town also won to take the title on goal difference.
Hackney started strongly, determined to put pressure on Harlow by doing their part. Max Grappy opened the scoring early with a neat finish, and Leo Pola soon doubled the lead, putting the Wickers firmly in control.
May & Baker struck back from the penalty spot just before the break, but Hackney regrouped after halftime and restored their two-goal cushion when Issa Sidibe found the net once again—capping off another strong personal performance and an outstanding season.
The win meant Hackney finished joint-top on 92 points, but ultimately, the dropped points against Newbury Forest proved costly as Harlow's superior goal difference secured them the title and promotion.
Hackney must now turn their attention to the play-offs, where they will first face Hutton FC—a team they've beaten three times already this season, but there will be no room for complacency. Should they progress, the Wickers will meet the winners of AS London vs Raleigh Town in the play-off final on May 3rd, with promotion still firmly in their sights.
Final Score: May & Baker FC 1 - 3 Hackney Wick FC
